This article is alarming. As blackouts plagued the Philippines due to its low system reserve capacity, Pnoy is pushing for a special executive powers to resolve the power crisis particularly in Southern Philippines.
There are speculations however that it is a conspiracy to provide undue advantage to the private sectors close to energy officicals. This is reminiscent of the same scenario during the term of Pres Cory (PNoy’s mother) when the government officials were unduly given preference to supply generators to augment the insuffucient power reserves of the national grid.
PNoy has been promoting transparency on his government, let us give him the benefit of the doubt. The Philippine government should focus on long term solutions to the power crisis rather than expensive temporary solutions like power barges. After all, stable supply of electricity is a pre-requisite to a stable economy.
