Changing career path is easier said than done. Success rate is low. Being middle age even makes it more difficult.
There are lots of challenges in this endeavor. Top of the list is performing according to expectations. In short, please the BOSS. Always remember that you are working at the pleasure of the boss. If you can not satisfy your boss then expect that you will be shown the door.
The next challenge is how to adopt into the new industry practices. Each industry works differently. Sometimes, peers are not helpful enough as they percieve you as threat. Show them that you are there to help and not to intimidate.
Career change is synonimous to survival. Not until you are permanently employed that you can say you overcome through those challenges. Being in a permanent status though is not a guarantee to success.
