Earth Hour 2009 aims to reach more than one billion people in 1000 cities around the world, asking communities, business and governments to switch off the lights at 8.30pm on March 28th, for 1 hour.
In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Colosseum in Rome, Opera House in Sydney and Coca Cola billboard in Times Square, New York, all stood in darkness.
People are encouraged to take action in their homes by turning out the lights, TVs and other appliances next weekend.
