After testing successfully Ubuntu Karmic Koala on Asus EeePC 1005PE, I finally decided to install it. As netbooks do not have CD/DVD drives, I need a means to install Ubuntu into the netbook. I came up with several ideas:
- Use a shared DVD drive from another computer
- Copy the contents of the Ubuntu installer into the netbook
- Use a virtual CD drive to install Ubuntu
I settled for the last option. I installed Virtual Clone Drive to simulate a CD drive on the netbook.
Ubuntu got WUBI which will allow you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way.
I did not encounter any issues at all during the installation process. I still need to do the process I discussed in my previous article in order to activate wireless connectivity.
With Ubuntu Installed using WUBI, I could select on which OS I want to boot, Windows 7 or Ubuntu.
